Profiles of Innovation

Entrepreneur: Profiles of Innovation was a 12 part video series for culturmap.com about some of Houston’s creative entrepreneurs who have followed a passion and started their own business.  This series was produced by Douglas Newman of MouthWatering Media and myself over three months in 2011.  The series was a great experiment to figure out how to get low cost, high quality video content produced for the web.  For most of the 12 segments I handled all aspects of the production; camera, sound and editing, while Douglas conducted the interviews.  By the end we got into a really good rhythm that I felt maximized the budget and our time and created, in my opinion, 12 really compelling video profiles of Houston’s creative entrepreneurs.  Below are a few of my favorites.

Cai Guo Qiang’s Odyssey

This film was created to document the creation of a large scale gunpowder painting for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston by renowned artist Cai Guo Qiang.  After many months of preparation, Cai and his team came to Houston where they spent six days laying out the panels, creating stencils and testing the gun powder.  All of this preparation came to realization when Cai ignited the gunpowder painting on October 6th, 2010, causing the image to sear into the canvas.  This beautiful work of art can be viewed in the Arts of China Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.  This gallery was curated by Christine Starkmen.
