This film looks back at the founding of the Asia Society by John Rockefeller III in New York, the founding of the Houston chapter in 1979 by Barbara Bush and Roy Huffington and highlights the new Texas Center building that was designed by world renowned architect Yoshio Taniguchi. </p>

<p>The dancer featured in this film is Melody Mennite, a principal ballerina at the Houston Ballet. Watching her movements at such high speeds reveals another internal layer to her creative process. </p>

This teaserincludes former president and Arkansas Governor, Bill Clinton.  I&#8217;ve filmed a lot of interviews in my 15 years as a filmmaker, this was definitely my favorite. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<img width="188" height="105" src="http://www.johncarrithers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Odessy-Final-06_20_2011-188x105.png" class="attachment-medium wp-post-image" alt="Odessy Final 06_20_2011" title="Odessy Final 06_20_2011" /><p></p><br /><p>This film was created to document the creation of a large scale gunpowder painting for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston by renowned artist Cai Guo Qiang.  After many months of preparation, Cai and his team came to Houston where they spent six days laying out the panels, creating stencils and testing the gun powder.  All of this preparation came to realization when Cai ignited the gunpowder painting on October 6th, 2010, causing the image to sear into the canvas.  This beautiful work of art can be viewed in the Arts of China Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.  This gallery was curated by Christine Starkmen.<br />

This segment is about Sgt. Erica Lewis. She was stationed in Iraq from 2003-2004.</p>
<p>The film is a collaboration between Laura Browder, a professor of American studies at the University of Richmond, Douglas Newman, a filmmaker from Houston, and myself. </p>
